E85 use.. again.. V70-XC70

Gas is skyrocketing.. I've done my research.. apparently there is not much to do to convert to run on 100% E85.. commments and opinions will be appareciated.

http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=73061

while apparently I am not supposed to do so, I am now on a REGULAR basis, blending E85 into my gas whenever I top off, sometimes as much as 1/3 tank, one time I even had the gull to run 1/2 tank E85, 1/2 tank gasoline..The results were lower gas milagem, and nothing else.. but not so low that its not worth it.. when gasoline is $3.25 and E85 is $2.49 you start to think..
I am doing this for obvious reasions..a) the price gasp between E85 and gasoline in my area, in some cases is as much as 50-60 cents now. even with the 30% reduced mileage( in my opinion more like 10-15% less) it is cost effective..anybody else still expermenting with E85..
according to the link I have posted above, which in my opinion is very informative, all volvos made after 1988 have ethanol resistant plastics..etc, yada,yada..
check out the link, let me know what you think..

Chicago does have expensive gasoline :)

You have already run 100% E85 and had a little hesitation. According to the article, I don't think it will work well in our winter climate. The cylinders might cool off too much to burn E85.
Spending a few hundred $$ to convert the injectors and ECU for E85 is too much for me. I think I would rather just buy a Civic Hybrid for $22K and get 50mpg.

    E85 use.. again..Check owner manual V70-XC70

In the USA version of the 1999 S70/V70 owner manual on p. 67, the 2nd paragraph states:

    Alcohol - Ethanol
Fuels containing up to 10% ethanol by volume may be used. Ethanol may also be referred to as Ethyl alcohol or "Gasohol."

On the right side of the page is a box with warnings. One of them:

Do not use gasolines containing methanol (methyl alcohol, wood alcohol). This practice can result in vehicle performance deterioration and can damage critical parts of the fuel system.

Please let us know how your experiment progresses.

methanol is not E85. I am aware of the differences.. Methanol can do damage, I knew that.
