I am replacing the water pump and gasket on my 97 850. Should I use gasket cement?

Yes, use a little of your favorite gasket cinch on the pump side only. I have been using 3M spray adhesive for the past 20+ years with no problems but most anything will work. The glue is not there as a sealant, it is there strictly to hold the gasket in place while you assemble it. If you put some on the engine side it will make the next pump a bitch to do.

Hi,
last summer I renewed 850 -94 timing belt, rolley, tensioner and water pump at 200kkm as secont tbelt renewal was due. the water pump gascet was old paper type so I used similar delivered with the new pump, put some crease on both surfaces ie old style. I think cleaning off all old rests is most important.
Is working fine.
