Rear Brakelight Failure V70-XC70 1997

Hi All,
Am posting this problem for a friend.

His V70 has the rear right brake light out. Globe replacement didnt fix the problem and multileter testing of the new globe showed it to be okay.

There is no 'globe out' on the instrument panel either which surprised me. Is the brake light one side on a common circuit with some other globe so I can tell that a fuse is gone? any suggestions?

Good morning. Are you sure it is the brake light and not a fog light? Have your friend turn off the headlights and check the brake lights again. Also make sure the rear fog lights are turned off.

Hi Knlaus,
I did promt my friend to confirm that is is the brale light globe and he said that he has done so. Possibly a ground fault?

Yes. On the US models, there is a box under the left side lights which checks the voltage balance. When the balance is out of kilter, the light goes on at the dash signaling a burned out bulb. Your friend will need to follow wires, looking for a short/ground problem.

Sorry, that is never fun. At least it is still warm outside. Minus 11F here.
