1995 Volvo 850 GLT: Odometer mileage and computer mileage advance on a one-to-one basis; however both are approx. 1.6 times greater than that actually travelled i.e. for every 10 miles of actual ground travel the odometer mileage and computer mileage read 16 miles. What sensor would provide an erroneous output to "age" a vehicle faster? Or is it a computer problem?

If you got a Canadian car that someone put a USA instrument panel in, oops! I don't know if that can be easily fixed. You local dealer may be able to change the setting from Km to Miles, for a small fee of course.

A clue: there are approximately 16 kilometers in 10 miles.

Ken,

So the odometer and computer readouts are in kilometers. Is there a change-over procedure to indicate miles?
