Test for bad sway bar end links 850 1993

My car has a banging from the front end when going over bumps. It seems to be emanating from the strut area. Not sure if it is a strut noise or the sway bar end links. I remember reading somewhere that there is a way to test the sway bar end links. Can anyone help?

BTW - The tie rod ends have been replaced and the ball joints are okay.

Thanks,

Jim

Real easy. Just grab the rod and pull/push, if it moves even a fraction, replace them both. You will want both front wheels off the ground on jack stands to make it easy.
IPD sells the best. The OEM are only good for a few years.

A good test would be to buy a new pair on ebay for about 30.00 and take both your old ones off I think two 15mm nuts on each one and a wrench behind the bolt to keep the ball from spinning in the socket.....take them both off at the same time...ie use a couple jack stands. Put the new links on and see what happens. Take a look at the sway bar bushings while your at it. Whole job is simple and just takes about 40 minutes. You can't go wrong. Take only one off at a time and the job is a real pain because you fight the torque on the sway bar from the other side....

The test I use is to move them vertically and laterally and look for play. In my son's case one of them just flat fell off which is a dead giveaway but they are like ball joints and tie rod ends, any slop is to much play.

Chances are you have a broken spring seat, they are weak and make the exact noise you describe.
