Broken PNP or broken trany computer? 850 1994

In the process of switching out a busted PNP switch the "SHOP" managed to mess it up pretty bad now the car does not work right.
there was a report of spark as the "mechanic" shorted something out.
the car has the arrow turned out and the car starts out in 2nd gear and wont upshift.
now the only question as to which gave out is that when i try to read the codes i plug the A1 connector and the red led just stays on wont read any codes..
so does that mean that the ECU is busted..or the pnp?..and which of the ecu looking things is the tranny one?
Thanks
all the best

Sorry, this is a little slow. My 1995 850 has the TCU next to the passenger fender, it's label has AsinWarner written on it.

If the shop screwed it up, let them fix it!!! When my 850 developed a short in the alternator, I also couldn't use the diagnostic light - it was always on because of the current flow. So, your car may also have a strong current flow somewhere.
In order to get a good look at the PNP, the battery needs to come out. If they failed to disconnect the battery, that is their problem. A generic scanner will still work from the port under the "change" holder in the center console.

Your car is in limp-home-mode, so if you downshift to L then 3, you should have 2 forward speeds to play with.
Look for a short, not a bad TCU.

Sure your "winter mode" switch isn't turned on?

Yep im sure of it...or in other words it seems like it is in winter mode but wont let me switch it out..when i press winter mode the lights on the switch do not go out like it used to.
plus when i try to read the codes the led lights up as soon as i connect it to a1 and wont let me read any codes..
Im thinking the ecu is busted or both the ecu and the pnp
