what parts to fix the blower fan components 850 1994

1994 850 turbo with climate control.

The fan was not working after car had been sitting for a while.
turned fan switch on manually...nothing, both lights (rec & ac)are blinking.

checked fuses....all good.
pulled blower unit. Bench tested good. (it squawks awfully bad, will be ordering a new unit)

What else should should I order to fix the problem? resistor? relay? switch unit?

Can fix just about anything on a 240, but am realatively new to the 850 model.

Thanks for the help,
Ryan

just checked my manual as both REC and A/C were blinking yesterday - indicates part of the Electronic Climate Control Unit rather than the blower itself.

When sat overnight and restarted, all was okay, thank goodness.

I havent quite figured out what is the ECC. ?another CPU?

Just went through this w/ mine. The blower worked when connected directly to the battery but not in the car. Thought it was the speed control but I was wrong. The motor brushes don't have a very long connector wire. When the brushes wear the wire tends to get tight and prevent the brush from making contact with the armature. You can take the motor apart and fiddle with the wire and brush and usually get it to start working but the problem will come back shortly. To get the motor apart first pry out the plug adapter and remove the one screw on the end of the housing. The motor can then be pulled out of the plastic housing. If you're good at soldering you can heat up the brush wire connection and slip it a little to create more room for brush movement.

When you order a blower and rehostat, also order a cabin filter and filter holder. That will keep the dirt out of your system. And clean out the ducting from the blower to the bottom of the windshield.

It sounds like you will need a blower and the power stage (blower resistor) there is a writeup here on a do it yourself repair on the power stage but I don't think anyone yet has come up with a plug and play replacement mosfet.

The Mosfet he used can be had a Digikey for around $3.00 but it requires adding wires to the leads.

Pretty typical blower fan and power stage situation. I always replace them in sets. Klaus' advice on the pollen filter is spot on, stuff one in.

        Thanks for the info.

I've got a new blower and resistor on order. As soon as it arrives I will get it in and cross my fingers.

I couldn't find the cabin filter at FCP Groton or IPD, but it looks like NAPA may have one for under $20.

Is there any other gem of a place you FWD people like to get your parts?

        Thanks again.
