Rumbling/Droning from R Front of vehicle V70-XC70 2001

Guys, I experience a rumble coming from the R Front of the vehicle. It is most audible in low speed up to 60K. It seems that the rumble is more pronounced when the running surface becomes less smooth ( I am not talking about potholes or ruts and bumps). I checked the wheel bearings for noise and play, that seems normal. I do not have issues with the drive axles starting to knock when steering is applied full left/right. The strut towers seem tight ? I rotated the tires from front to back, no differnce. However, the noise seems to increase with temperatures falling. The noise is most audible when starting out in the morning at - 15C. Any help would be appreciated.

You sure are pressing our imaginations :) Usually, when a strut bearing starts to fail, it is a clunk, not a rumble.

How old are your shocks and have they ever leaked? Is there any noise when you push down on the RF bumper?
Inspect inner and outer CV boots and for any play in the axle.

So far, the car did run 132000km. I suspect the shocks are original. I purchased the car 2 month ago. I will get the shocks and CV joints checked out. There is no noise pushing on the RF fender/bumper. The rumble tone is almost a steady low tone. Wheelbearings or CV noise does spin up in tone frequency with increasing speed, this rumble stays low and steady pending on road surface. What should be the average life of strut bushings/bearings ? Is there any torsion bar bushings that would produce a sound like this ?

      Thanks for trying to help.....

That is relatively low Km for shocks/struts to go bad. The sway bar end links are easy to check, just reach behind the wheel and grab it. If it moves even a little bit while vigorously shaking it, then they need to be replaced.

While the front wheel was off, did you notice if the shock cover was loose? It is supposed to be up around the top of the shock.
