s70 glt crankshaft pulley S70

I purchased a 98, with 128K and am replacing 7 year old timing belt with 60K on it, along with water pump, idler and tensioner rollers, just so I can avoid a catastophic engine destruction and get some sleep .
I had to loosen the crankshaft pulley 1/4" to get the old belt out from behind the casting or spacer with the rubber ring on it behind the bottom of the pulley. I had to remove the pulley to remove the rear timing cover to clean off the waterpump gasket. Whoops !@#$? no !@#$ keyway. The pulley seems to only go back on in one position. Are the splines keyed in some way? Is the notch on top of the pulley tooth (sure looks like two adjacent teeth each have the notch?) aligned to the pointer mark on the block at TDC of cylinder #? if I need to verify correct position?

I spent yesterday removing any moving parts on the front and today replacing. Purrs like a kitten and now I can get some ZZZZ. A couple things that may be of help in the future:
The rear timing cover is baked and is impossible to remove without cracking it.
The water pump has no noticable bearing wear but idler and tensioner rollers did.
The inner fender is held on with 11 pop rivets, which must be removed, and rivets must be replaced, maybe the 950 fender can be folded but not an s70?
The crankshaft pulley must be moved forward out of the way to r/r the belt. No need to jack up the engine.

The OEM inner fender has a flap held down with an 8 or 10mm screw. I am surprised yours didn't have one. Perhaps that is why you had such difficulty. My TB cover slides right off, no problem.
When tension is relaxed on the tensioner, the belt almost slips off. Just hard over the lip, because there isn't much room.

I am glad to hear it is running nicely! :)

Correct, the notch corresponds to top dead center of #1 cyl.

I am surprised that you had to remove the pully to clean the water pump area, or to get the old belt off.
I hope your garage is warmer than mine!! All maint has been defered until Spring.

After buttoning everything up, crank the engine by hand for at least 2 revs to make sure nothing is touching the pistons. When you finally get to using the starter, leave the engine running for at least 60 seconds to get the oil pressure up. I don't have to tell you about "lawn mower" syndrome.
