TOTALLED: 2000 v70 se. Should I keep anything before towtruck arrives later? V70-XC70 2000

2000 V70 SE, non-turbo car. Some off duty police woman pulls out in front of me and I cream her from behind. Being that it's a rear end collision, almost every time it's the person behind who's held at fault regardless of the circumstances.

That aside... the tow truck is going to come take it away sometime today. Is there anything I can get to easily enough that would be worth keeping and ebaying? Maybe anybody on here want something for a way reasonable price? It's the front end that got damaged, mostly just back to, and including the radiator. All the front lights are in pieces.

I guess I'll pull the AMM if it's okay...

I also want to replace it with a similar T5 if I can find one. Man I wish I could find a manual, of any flavor V70.

Stranded and looking ahead,
Justin

When a car is totaled out, it doesn't mean it goes to a junkyard... It could, but doesn't necessarily.

Therefore, don't hack too many things out of it, or your insurance company could theoretically charge you back for the lost value, since they're paying you for the salvage, not for the "junk".

Truck came pretty quickly V70-XC70 2000

Thanks a bunch everybody. I didn't manage to get a whole lot out of it before the truck arrived. Thanks for all the great ideas though. There aren't many of these in the junkyards here either.

    TOTALLED: 2000 v70 se. Keep seats? V70-XC70 2000

Sorry to hear the bad news. Here is an extreme idea: keep the seats if yours are in good condition. A used car this old may well have a trashed driver's seat, so your old one might be better. I like the idea of saving the almost-new tires. Were the wheels alloy and were they in good shape?

As for a replacement with manual transmission: very rare in the South USA. I don't know what was wrong with Volvo buyers in the late 1990s. Here was a fun little sedan and wagon whose manufacturer offered manual transmission (which was largely impossible to get in most other cars of the same class). And people bought them with slush boxes. Unbelievable. (Maybe that is not too different than the mentality of putting wall-to-wall carpet on oak floors in historical homes).

Radio pops out, write the code on it.
    ECC unit, also pops out.
Relays, under fuse box and under dash.
Air pump in front of right wheel? If you get anouther V70 :)
    Full sized spare, jack tools.

There are bound to be much more.

PS. Look in your local Craigslist. There are manual trannys, but rare.

I trust that you and any passengers are OK?

Look around for anything that might transfer to another car you might replace it with. The radio pops right out and will transfer easily as long as you have the security code (check your glovebox or it's available from a dealer for free). Perhaps the cupholder/armrest in the center console if equipped. Any other optional equipment that is easily removed. How about mounting the spare tire and saving the best wheel/tire. While you're back there grab the toolkit and jack too. Clear any personal belongings/information out of the glovebox. Check under the seats and in the cracks for spare change!

    Good luck finding a replacement.

when i totalled my 850, I had it in storage for a bit. my collision covered the other car hit, however we did not let the insurance company buy the car from us, so we had time.. I got the radio, seats, and speakers. and in the case of this car the entire front counsel, dash, etc. which was good, becasue the replacement 850 was a mess.. to this day we cannot figure out how the previous owner managed to crack the entire dash assembly.. other than the guy tried to a) take out the radio nbot knowing how to do so, and b) left the dash not knowing how to do so..

anyway, if my '99 v70 got wrecked today, chances are the insurance company wouldnt even give me $2000 for a car I paid $6000 for in 2006, so I would not claim it. the seats alone are worth a good $$$..

      Will,

Thanks for the ideas. I thought about the radio, I've had it out plenty of times and have the code saved. Now the tires... and this makes me cry... I put Goodyear Assurance tires on it last month. Brand new tires, and I know a lot of people on here are die hard Michelin fans and so am I. The Goodyears had a good price, and my service guy cut me a break. These were the quietest tires I've ever ridden on. I'd love to go to the junkyard and put 4 spares on the car, and keep all the tires and wheels. I made the mistake once of trying to help somebody else with my jack, and it closed the loop that is supposed to hook around the lifting point on the car. I'd rather not use that one any more.

Nobody was hurt at all. Just the cars, thankfully. I figure 25mph at impact. I take worse hits windsurfing.

Anybody know any GLTs or T5s out there, maybe close to S. Florida or maybe just in the state? Anything with a manual tranny? I'm looking everywhere I can.

      Many Thanks,
      Justin
