So most of my rocker switch lights on my '97 850 were blown. All the radio lights were blown, including the LCD display. I fixed them. It took 2.5 hours and $25 in bulbs. There are a few great links on the web and the brickboard to help this project along, but there were a few things I encountered:
1) The radio circuit board on my SL-815 Volvo Premium radio is connected to the radio via tiny metal pieces that are turned to lock it to the radio. The website I found on this said nothing about this (probably a slightly different radio). I didn't realize this and nearly broke the entire contraption trying to get the radio apart. Don't do this. Once I found the tiny "clips" and undid them, along with two screws holding the LCD display to the radio, the circuit board came out, revealing the lights which I replaced with Honda clock lights (5 of them were $16 at the Honda dealer and fit perfectly).
2) The LCD has its own light. To get to it, you have to move more of those tiny metal clips and slide the metal surround back (one corner is soldered on, thus I left it attached there). The light bulb is the same as the others but must be soldered in, which was only a moderate pain.
3) All of these light bulbs, including the rocker switch ones, are replaceable with micro lamp #7219 at Radio Shack (they come in packs of 2 for around $1.50). The Radio Shack guy promptly informed me that he didn't think they had them and looked in one drawer for a minute, expecting me to leave. I said I could look and found them in the next drawer within 30 seconds. Yay for terrible customer service. I could've not bought the Honda lights, but they were just so easy to put in. It's a real pain to route those tiny wires through the housing.
4) The various rocker switches are not very hard to remove and replace the lights on. Just a few minutes per with above mentioned bulb.
I hope this helps someone needing to do this project. It sure is nice to be able to see everything at night!
