Odo fix Success! Well, mostly. 850 1997

So I successfully fixed the odometer, backlights, and faulty ignition switch tonight on my '97 850. That all makes me happy, but I couldn't believe how much more of a job it was than my 240's! In my excitement to see if the lights worked, I stupidly turned the key on before I reconnected the wire to the passenger airbag. Now the SRS light is on (understandably). How do I make it go off? Do I need to hook up an OBDII thing to it?

Thanks!

Update 850 1997

For any who may care, I went over to my local Volvo guy near Apple Creek, Ohio, who plugged in his diagnostic thing and had my SRS light reset within 5 minutes. Only charged me $10 cash. I think I got lucky after hearing of some folks paying over $100 at the stealership!!!

I cannot believe the dealer charges so much for some things. Totally ludicrous.

Oh POOP!! That little mistake means you need to find a dealer or really good indie with a VADIS scanner to turn off the SRS light. A normal OBDII scanner won't work.
I thought the instrument cluster was easier on my 850 than trying to get the cluster out of my 164. I always had trouble putting the speedo cable back on because there was no slack. Of course, with the 850/70 series, it is always easier when the temp is above 70F and the dash flexes nicely.

The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are a 95 854T and a 98 V70R :)

That's what I was worried would be the case. Bummer! I guess I'll call my indie guy and see if he can do it....his shop is called Volvos and More, so I figure he should be able to do it. Stupid that one little turn of the key can cost so much. Seems like a definite defect in planning...or I guess a smart one for them to make money off of!

Vadis will not do a thing for that car, it is not a network vehicle. Any have ways decent Volvo specialty shop should have a scanner that will pull and clear SRS codes.

Defect in planning, that is funny. Automobiles are not designed and engineered for DIY guys to work on.

Yeah, that was definitely tongue-in-cheek about defect in planning. I know they don't care at all about the DIY-ability of anything when designing. Still, it doesn't make it any less frustrating!

I bought the tool from World Pac for $150 a few years back, and it resets the SRS -as well as the service (aka oil change)-light. Definitely worth the money. Various World Pac storefronts sell it (now) for approximately $200. Have a most splendid afternoon one and all :)

What tool DOES do the SRS lights? I know all of them do the check engine lights, but where do I look to find one that works with SRS?

thanks!
