need to replace the front srping seats on the '96 850 850

Will spaying some lithium grease down through the strut tower quiet the noise until the parts are replaced Tuesday? Are there any negative consequences from doing this? Thanks :)

Make sure you go to the dealer and order the peel and stick crush spacers that sit on the spring seats or your wasting your time!

By "spacer," do you mean the washer that sits underneath the spring seat and on top of the bump stop? I spoke to the dealer Friday, and they assured me that the a new washer wasn't necessary. Could you please explain to me why it is prudent to replace that part. Thanks :)

Just a waste of time. The noise will not hurt the springs, just your ears. In my case it was the bushing between the dust boot holder and the spring seat that gave out and caused the noise.
You won't find out until the strut is taken off the car.

Don't think this will help. Usually the strut bushings are worn out. It's not a lubrication issue.

It may quiet it down a little bit but truthfully it is probably a waste of time, I would just leave it alone and change them out as soon as possible. The sounds that it is making are the sounds of it resisting movement in where the bushing is blown out. If you lubricate this area it will probably quiet it down but only becuase there is now even less resistance to movement and the front suspension is getting slammed harder than ever when you hit bumps and the like. Just hang a new set asap, the parts are only $35-$40 each list for factory Boge spring seats.

Thank you one and all for the help! I ordered, for both sides, new spring seats/strut mounts, as well as new control arms. I should ask if I should also get new strut bump stops. The suspension, if it makes any difference, is Bilstein all the way around. Thanks again, and I hope that everyone has a most splendid Friday :)
