850 Blower Motor 850 1994

Hi,
About a month ago I removed the blower motor which had apparently seized, lubricated it got it working and re-installed it. Worked fine for the past month. Wife reports today that it isn't working again and that when she turns on the defrost the lights for REC and the one beside flash.
Can anyone confirm that this relates to the blower motor being seized ONLY, and that my resistor is still good?
I would like to know for sure before ordering a new motor.
Tks,
NBZ

Hi Klaus & Mark,
Thanks for the advice. Just finished replacing the blower motor with a new
unit and apparently all problems are solved. (1 hour) Original motor seized again.
Will advise if I also have to replace power stage and/or resistor if I
experience any further greif. No codes?

If you have electronic climate control, temp numbers in the dial, then just check socket B-1 for error codes. If it is manual climate control, fan speed numbers, then you need to check the fan wiring for power.
I suspect that one of the dampers did not respond when putting it into defrost mode and shut the system off. If the fan doesn't work in any flow position, then the "rehostat" is probably dead and not supplying power to the fan.

Like Klaus said you will need to pull codes on the climate control system to see what is going on with the blinkin' lights. On the fan control nobody is going to be able to just tell you whether or not your speed control has taken a crap or not. You need to have it diagnosed by someone who knows what the heck they are doing. Myself, if I get a car in the shop with a dead fan I recommend that you replace both the fan as well as the power stage to it. We used to have problems with these back in the day when they first came out and the official Volvo fix was to replace both the fan and the power stage. The power stages are not the best thing in the world and then you have the added stress of trying to pull current through to run a fan that is mechanically seizing, has a bad habit of smoking them. I had a lady come in the other day that had a power stage that worked but it made a chainsaw noise through the audio system when it was on. Faster the fan went the faster the chainsaw noise was, first time I had seen that one. The only good news is that if you have figured out how to R&R the fan motor then the power stage is right there next to it, piece of cake.
