Starter/Solenoid 850 1996

The problem I have is the starter does not want to engage. It spins at high speed, and continues to spin even after the key is removed from the ignition. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. Any ideas?

      Don't replace the starter. Much cheaper to fix it. You may find the bendix just needs some new grease. Take the starter out and dismantle it. The arm which throws the gear onto the flywheel will have stuck on. Remove the old grease and apply some new stuff. Using jump leads, run the starter motor while it is out of the car for short bursts to check the solenoid is returning the arm to the off position. Mine would stick on too and I could here the gear chattering on the flywheel. This cured my problem.
