Diagnostic - PCV Valve? S70 1998

took my car into the high school auto shop to get a popped code read off without paying a mechanic, just for a read. The shop teacher thinks it's a PCV valve - after trying a new gas cap the code returns. Anyone know of a place to buy this part (FCP Groton came up blank) in IL? I'll probably start checking auto parts stores next, but I wanted to get an idea of what it's gonna cost me. I'll go to Volvo as a last resort, but I'm sure they'll have quite the markup at that point.

Also any have this similar issue and find out that it turns out to be something else?

It's too bad you didn't write down the code number so we know what the shop teacher knows. Most autoparts stores will read you codes for free.
If it is gross evap leak, then it is probably the gas cap. And that code will go away after about 6 starts or so. If it the evap valve, then you are looking at an expensive part.
The PCV, if your car even has one, doesn't generate a code.

It was an evap leak...and I already tried replacing the gas cap...

And if you throw more money at it without a definitive answer, you will waste even more.
There is a vacuum line from the charcoal canister, through a check valve, and into the intake manifold. If that vacuum line has a hole, it is an easy fix. If it is the check valve, then it is expensive.
A dealer will charge you for diagnosing the problem. A very good independent VOLVO mechanic will be more reasonable.
