2001 S80 engine is it an interference engine? S80 2001

Greetings-

Against my advice (I figure the 240 built their reputation, and the 850 series helped them keep it)- my sister bought a 2001 S80 with 107k without the service records. I am aware of the issue with the belt tensioner, and there are no obvious signs the belt has been changed. If she waits a bit longer will she get stranded or be buying a new engine?

ALL new engines are interference. And a new tensioner is as important as the Tbelt. Do it now, a new engine is $$$$.

Thanks Klaus - you told me what I thought but what I was hoping wasn't true.

Yes. This is interference engine and in case of timing belt failure there is a very serious catastrophic damage to engine. However, this engine has its advantages too. Exhaust valves is making wider opening and they experience lower temperature. This allows for higher compression ratio, good performance, without demanding for high octane gasoline.
