After you retrieve the code, use a sharpie and write "cryptic" on top of radio (slide it out and write on top of it).

Cryptic means IMHO alphabet.

So let's say the code is "3324", I write "ccbd"

with 1234 being abcd etc.

I simply wrote the four digits on a scap of paper and stuck it in my wallet.

The bad guys might steal the radio, but it is unlikely that will also steal my wallet. If they get both, then I have much bigger problems than the code to my radio :-)

I got mine from the dealer's parts department. If the radio is out of the car, just hand it to the parts guy and ask him for the code. It helps if you have a relationship with the dealer.

If you cannot locate the code in your documentation, then take you vehicle registration to your nearest dealer. With the VIN and your proof of ownership, they can tell you the code. This assumes that the radio is original to the car.

In the past I have located the code on my bill of sale and in the info. supplied as a package in the glove compartment.

If you have the original owners manual and the rest of the paperwork, there will be a card that has the code on it. If not, call the parts department of your local Volvo dealership and give them the VIN of your car and they can look it up that way. As long as you have the original radio to the car...good luck...
