finally got around to replacing the alternator today........ 850 1996

World Pac was offering quite a deal to me on the alternator, so I figured since I didn't know how old the one sitting under the hood was, and because it was averaging 13.4-.5 volts, I went ahead and purchased it. This morning, my friend and I, went about installing the new ("rebuilt") Bosch alternator, as well as a new Conti drive belt. Now the volts are around 13.7-.8, but still lower than what I would've hoped. The battery is only a few months old, but who knows with Interstate what is going on. All of what I can think now is that perhaps the battery cables should be replaced. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)

That voltage isn't abnormal in relatively warm weather (not the dead of winter). It should move up to 14.2-14.5 when it is below freezing outside and with a cold engine. See if the voltage returns to the same value when you add or remove heavy loads like high beams and rear defogger. If so then there is probably nothing wrong. If you have an accurate meter measure at both the alternator positive post and the battery. If much different (more than 0.1V) then you would suspect the battery cables unless the battery is severely discharged.
