weird windshield problem 850

Hello everyone,
Had a strange question. I was driving today and noticed as the sunlight glare was coming through the windshield, that there were tons of little dust specks in the windshield. I assumed it was dust on the outside of the windshield, so I cleaned it. But after cleaning it the dust was still there. Then of course, I cleaned the inside of the windshield, and the dust was still there.
I cleaned both the inside and outside of the windshield, and felt the glass, and it was smooth on both sides, but still a ton of dust. Then I looked closer and it seemed as if the dust were actually between the outside of the glass and inside of the glass. Is the windshield a sandwich of two pieces of glass or am I just seeing an optical illusion? Anyone ever notice this or have the same problem?
Thanks in advance

Correct, all windshields are laminated glass. Which means that there is a layer of plastic between the two panes of glass. This lamination process is done at the glass factory and under high heat, there is no "dust" in the process.

What you are probably looking at are very small pits caused by sand/gravel that has hit the windshield over the years. The only solution is to replace the windshield.
