When to replace PCV system? 850 1995

My 854T has 185K mi, was serviced by dealers through 130K or so, and I have all the service records (I think). I don't see evidence of any PCV maintenance. I have had the car since 140K. The system looks original.

When I take the oil cap off there is a very slight vacuum at the cap. My question is, does it make any sense to go in and replace the PCV system as a "preventative" measure? Since it is a bit of a job, thought I would ask before jumping in.

Thank you for any advice. Don

Thanks Dick and Klaus. I was waiting to see if anyone else would chime in on this matter.

I do see in the maintenance receords that the car has spent most its life on synthetic oil. I have put synthetic in 3/5 of the oil changes I have done, and from now on I'll stick with that.

I think what I will do is put this job on my "to do when time" list. Since my car is high mileage, it seems anything I can do for reasonable $ in a preventative manner makes sense. Even though I have a small oil leak, I am very greatful the RMS hasn't hit me yet. Thanks as always for your advice and tips. Don 185K 1995 854T

It is a BIT of a job, but if you have a little vacuum at the filler cap or the oil dipstick, then you should be OK. I would have a hard time justifying a dealer's rate book Vs doing it at home.

Please answer, we need to know if the advice is good or bad. The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are 2 turbos :)

The only thing that pushes me to do it is that rear main seal. I have replaced one by myself and it will eat at least $1K to have it replaced. See what others think. It is a job, but there are worse. Just give yourself time.
