Front Axle replacements 850 1997

While doing the brakes on my daughter's 850 sedan I noticed some play in both sides of the inner axle connection. Clicking can be heard while coasting slowly in a parking lot, so I'm sure they are in need of replacement. Will I need special tools to do this job? I have a pretty good selection of tools as I do most of my own repair work. Just trying to have everything ready so I can do the job as quickly and easily as possible. Front wheel drive is a new animal to me.
Thanks.

ohh, and if you're inclined to do so while you're in there, it's a good opportunity to change the oil seals on the tranny where the power comes out.

ANSWER Front Axle replacements 850 1997

Check the instructions on Volvospeed. Special tools are few if you call them special. A 36mm socket to break loose the axel nut at the hub and a good breaker bar or a good pneumatic wrench to break the nut loose. I have bought a number of axels at fcpgroton at what I consider a reasonable price. No core charge either.

Not a bad job and have fun,

dick
