**Turbo vs NON ?** and AWD Shopping? V70-XC70

I am shopping around for a newwer vehicle! Ive owned alot of older models
several 80s 240 turbos! AN 89 and current 91-740Turbo.
Recently test driving lots of v70s a few 850s a couple of 40s and 60s. I feel the non turbos seem to be a little sluggish! Am I correct on this note? Can you modify a non turbo and get a little Zip in the drive?
I have also come across a couple of V70R that seem to have some nice pick up
still have to test dive the 2nd one. 1st one needed allot of TLC.??
And are all the XC cross countrys a bit sluggish too, being used to a run of turbos will I be dissapointed not having my turbo after a life of ZIPPING along
thanks for any input?

I believe that many people who have driven an 850T and an 850 say the 850 feels "sluggish" compared with the 850T. I have an 850T and it does get up and go. This is a heavy car, so IMO the Turbo is justified for a 5-cyl.

Ditto what "someone claiming to be" BG said. Turbo if you must have it, but stick to FWD and a set of snow tires unless you really need AWD. It adds a lot more things to go wrong. It sounds like you're getting by with 2WD now anyways.

As I understand it, the XC70s (and the '97 850 GLT) have the light pressure turbo (LPT) at 190hp, while the 850 Turbo and T-5 models are 220hp. That may be the difference you're seeing in the XC, along with the extra driveline to turn.

    Happy hunting,

**Turbo vs NON ?** and AWD Shopping? - consider simplicity V70-XC70

With anything used, especially a car, think simplicity. Do you really really need AWD? For example, do you ski in Vermont or have to go to work to drive the snowplow at 03:00? If not, stick with 2WD.

I love my 98' S70, but it is a non turbo. Driving in Dubai is very agressive and sporty; I am definitely suffering from the lack of power. I once took the car to the dealership to check if the lack of power was normal. The car went for a road test; the mechanics came back with a smile: welcome to the world of non turbo! I still love this car and I am keeping it for now.

      Hi,
I come from a similar background having owned several 240`s over the years. Bought a 95 850 turbo wagon several years ago which was an excellent car. Comfortable, fast etc. Rented a new V70 non turbo last year on a biz trip; not impressed, very sluggish.
Just bought a XC70 a few months ago & we love it. Definitely not slow.
      Good luck!
      Rich
