Idle is sometimes high 850

Recently I began experiencing high idle when I stop the car in traffic. It happens with warm engine, and idle stays at 1200 RPMs. I have checked the throttle cable and pulley. No stick ups in there. Funny thing is that a slight and quick pressure on the gas pedal brings RPMs to the 850 level immediately.

Anyone knows what might be causing this?

    maybe the idle air control valve sticks.

    Or there is a bad connection to it. I think when this valve gets disconnected, the spring loaded plunger remains partly open, causing a high idle.

    anyways, you can clean it with carburettor cleaner and reinstall it back. it cannot make things worse.

    Sounds like a dirty throttle body.

    Please answer, we need to know if the advice is good or bad. The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are 2 turbos :)
