AWD Wagon-Bevel Gear Oil V70-XC70

So, does anyone have any hard facts on this product?

Volvo Dealerships have no clue what it truly is. They say no one will tell them exactly what it is made of, just that it is a special fluid for Volvo. Lifetime Fluid, Volvo says it never has to be changed/replaced. Nothing is lifetime as far as a fluid goes!

I've heard it called Bevel Gear Oil, Transmission Fluid, etc.

Volvo can only tell me a part number of 1161648.

Has anyone ever had it tested/sampled to find out what it is?

Are there other sources that I can get this product from besides a Dealership?

Local Dealer wants $21.50 for a 1 liter bottle.

I look forward to the replies on this topic.

For a 98 Volvo AWD Wagon...

It only takes .75 liter, so you might be just as good getting it from a dealer. It is synthetic, but I am not sure if it is gear oil or tranny fluid.

And, yes, it does need flushing. At least every 60K miles.

Please answer, we need to know if the advice is good or bad. The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are 2 turbos :)
