Steering Wheel Adjustment Lever Broken S60 2001

While adjusting the steering wheel, I broke the lever that tightens the mechanism. I lowered the lever, moved the column, then when I tried to raise the lever back into the locked position, it broke. I removed the remaining plastic parts and thought I'd tap the metal lever back into locked position with a long punch and hammer. I didn't want to hit it too hard, but still it didn't move. Now the steering wheel is loose and I'm 2 hours from a dealer. Any ideas on how I can lock this or repair it myself? Thanks for the help.

A punch won't do it. Try a long pair of pliers or vice grips.

Please answer, we need to know if the advice is good or bad. The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are 2 turbos :)

A pair of channel-locks did the trick. I had to leave the wheel extended so I could get them into the latch area, but at least it's not flopping around. Thanks for the help.
