Idling too high at start up! 850

I've owned many a Volvo over the years...from the '76 264GL to three different 240 turbos...Right now I have two 850 turbo wagons. A '94 that I've had for 5 years and a '96 that I've had for three months.

First of all, the '96 zooms up the just over 2000 r.p.m.'s at start up then settles into a leizurely 900 or so...that seems a bit high...my '94 barely hits 1500...what might this be? Vacuum problem maybe?

Also, my '94 is so much stronger and faster than the '96. Low end is good and the turbo hits hard. The '96 is much more sedate...Anybody else had this experience? Did they switch the turbos or something. One car feels like a sportwagon the other...cringe....a luxury wagon...! The '94 has 180000 miles and feels fresh and strong...the '96 only has 112000 and feels less than frisky...

If anyone has had such an experience, please share your knowledge...thank you ever so much.

Check for a vacuum leak in the line going to the turbo check valve and/or around the intake manifold.

Please answer, we need to know if the advice is good or bad. The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are 2 turbos :)
