a/c freezing up at firewall 850 1995

(repeat post from Monday)
A/C was freezing up at firewall. The only a/c service in last 3 years was a "recharge" by a local "filling station." I put gauge on low side and it seemed high (lower 40's). It would drop only to about 25-26 after more than 20 min.(never cycling off) at around 85 degrees.
I swapped the pressostat from a known good one (my 850) with same results. I assume it was overcharged? If so, is there a way to correct this without evacuation/recharge? Will "venting" a few seconds work?

If it isn't cycling off and it is freezing the firewall, then you have a pressure switch issue. I am assuming that is the pressostat you mentioned? If you feel the switch is good, then it may be an electrical issue from the switch to the system. If you had it recharged 3 years ago and now it started freezing the firewall, I would say you don't have an overcharge issue. When the compressor never cycles off, then the charge keeps cooling until is freezes the system. It cycles off to let the temp rise some.

If it was overcharged, you have to remove some. I think venting r134a in the atmosphere is against the law pretty everywhere (it is a strong greenhouse gas).

If you are sure the sensors are not the cause, i would check the pressure in the system to know if it is overcharged.

    good luck!
