Your chance to help my friend Noreen with her V70

And I quote the email question:

One day last week,
There was a little plume , a puff, of smoke that came out of my electric
window operation on the driver side as I was electronically rolling up
the window.
It looked rather like the smoke from a magic trick.
Uh oh - I thought...
But yet the window continued to roll up -
And continues to this day - to go up and down and up and down and up and
down.

I know I should be thinking more about this -
I don't have air conditioning and the windows are essential.

What do you think that was?
I tiny smoke signal from a miniature man
Trapped inside my Volvo armrest?

My last XC was a 98'. Had the same problem. You might want to look online for the part. The cost at the dealer a little over a hundred dollars if I remember correctly. Then you can take you car outside the dealership to get the work done. Maybe save a few bucks.

Sounds like a piece of errant debris got into the switch contacts and became a resistor for a brief moment. Whatever it was did not have enough resistance to burn the fuse so the windows still function. It may also be a loose part in the switch contacts that is getting ready to fail at more opportune time.

Mister Stueben,
Tell Noreen to start saving up for a new master control window switch. Very easy to replace, pull up old and push down new, but a pain to take apart and repair. A wire has burned and luckily they are no longer touching each other, but they will eventually. This is a common occurance on the SV70, about the same as spilling coffee in your 850.

Please answer, we need to know if the advice is good or bad. The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are 2 turbos :)

Agreed. it's an easy fix. I think it took me all of 10 minutes. I used to FCP one, its cheaper, looks the same, and works just as well. It also fit perfectly.
