850 Radiator replacement 850

94' 855 Turbo 147k

I have read through the archives on replacing the radiator on the 850 series, and I'm trying to decide if I should tackle it myself or save it for the pros. I'm new to the 850, but have worked on my 242ti for years and currently live in the city so I dont have much room to work on the car.

I have a quote from a Seattle area shop for $593 for parts & labor, including new o rings on the oil and transmission lines and a OEM radiator. I could probably pick up the parts online for less than $300 total, work on it at a friends house, and knock it out on a saturday. Bay 13 makes the project look fairly straightforward but I might as well check on here to see what people might have to say about the job. Currently the oil line connections to the radiator leak, so I would need to replace the clips\o rings as well.I figure at the same time a transmission flush would be a good idea since its been about 30k. The same shop quoted $150 for a full flush including filter replacement.

Thank you for any tips or suggestions.

Sounds like a deal! 850

Hi,
Had the rad replaced on wife`s 850 wagon a few years ago, nothing wrong with the rad but one of the mountings had busted. Anyway, the dealer cost was $1100 & they screwed up so the the rad kept overheating which translated into 2 tow jobs.
$593 sounds like a helluva` deal. I agree with David unless you have nothing better to do on a wkend.

I would have it done at the shop. It's a reasonable price for peace of mind. If they braek anything installing it, they fix it. DIY's can go wrong. A dealer charges $1300!

Couldn't be that big a job. I would tie wrap the transmission cooler line connectors after the new o ring and snapping the connector back into the cooler. I do that after a tranny flush to assure myself that the connector snap on cover won't loosen and let the hose out of the socket.
Good luck.
