odometer failure diagnosis: gear or ABS? 850

I have search and read that odometer failures ( 1997 850 GLT at 135,000 miles) might be due to the gear failure or might be the ABSunit. I replaced the abs unit at about 80,000 miles. The odometer was working intermittently until a few weeks ago but stopped completely the last time I reset the trip mileage. Now the trip and odometer don't move at all. Thankfully the ABS light is not on, although it did flash on briefly a few weeks ago but hasn't since.

How can I tell if a gear repair is the way to go?

ANSWER odometer failure diagnosis: gear or ABS? 850

A speedometer failure can occure with the demise of the ABS module, not the odometer. Fairly easy fix to replace the gear and the instrument lights at the same time. Remember, the car's computer also stores the milage. I looked at an 850 which had 130K on the clock and the owner said the odo failed about 20K earlier. When I checked the computer, it had 254K miles! No sale.

Let Victor replace your ABS module when it fails. Only $140.

Please answer, we need to know if the advice is good or bad. The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are 2 turbos :)
