1996 850 odometer repair 850 1996

I have read the the dash removal instructions on Bay 13 and I'm willing to do the job myself by getting the gears from odometergears.com
My only question is once the cluster is removed are there any detail instructions as to where these replacement gears go into the cluster or at least some pics of the actual replacing of the gears. I'd hate to have the parts in my hands and the cluster out and then have no clue or break something.
Any help is appreciated.
P.S. I guess after 298,000 miles I should feel lucky to be doing thsi for the first time.

Marty

    1996 850 odometer repair 850 1996

    Hi from icy Boston (17F)

I got two sets of gears from odometer gears and its an easy fix
once you get the instrument cluster out. The odometer unit comes apart easily and you wont have any trouble pulling out the broken gear and the cluster gear that it mates with. The guy at Odometer Gears is on top of the repair when he insisted to get some compressed air to blow out the odo assy.
You don't want the broken tooth staying in there to mess up your new setup.

    Have at it, Bill

      1997 850 odometer repair 850 1996

Odometer repair next. I pulled the whole unit from a 96 850 that someone had graciously already removed from the dash, especially since the junkyard sold it to me for $10. I do not know if the pull works or not, however I do know that the one currently in my vehicle does not work. Sitting neatly at 140097 miles and trip mileage at 000000. In any event, I'd like to first test the pull to see if it works, but not sure how to cause the mileage to spin without first connecting it to a live vehicle (likely mine), which may or may not be a good idea because if it does work it's still due to fail soon from what I read. So, two questions: does anyone know of a supplier of that little yellow/white replacement gear, and can the pulled unit be tested in some way other than conencting it to a live vehicle? Thanks again. Will be posting pictures soon of the numerous little repairs and replacements I've done on this vehicle. I thought I'd really miss my 745 wagon, however this car is great even with the little touch ups I'm having to do to get it right. Can't wait until springtime to finish the sunroof cover repair (which should be the last thing).
