removing roof strips 850

Does anybody have the secret to removing the two strips that run the length of the roof of an 850 wagon? Y'know, where you might attach a roof rack. Any help gratefully received. Thanks brickboard. Warren

I did mine by hand, carefully plucking them out. First, open tailgate, remove end piece. Then, from back, pop them out, using plastic tire lever if necessary. If you pull too hard it will deform, but pretty much goes back to shape when you pop 'em back in. I painted mine with black trim paint and they look 100x better.

Suggest using a "bone tool" (a great rugged plastic tool shaped kind of like an arrow head - can get from IPD), a tool for removing bike tires, or some other similar device. I tend to scratch the paint if I use a screw driver.

I have a 95 850 GLT and replaced mine. Don't know if the wagon is the same, but I just put a small screwdriver in them and popped them out. I started at the back, they just pop out, there are held in with clips.
