2005 V70 R advice V70-XC70 2005

My current 98 S70 was in an accident and got totaled by the insurance co. I'm looking at a 2005 V70R with 80K miles on it. Current owner says it has been dealer serviced, never involved in an accident, all highway miles and everything is in great shape. I'm going down on Tuesday to take a look at it and maybe purchase it.

What should I be looking for in terms of common problems and issues with this model. Did this year still have A/C problems? (I had to replace the condenser in my 98 and my father's 98 V70 had the bevel gear issue) Looking through the forums I haven't been able to find anything.

Thanks in advance for your info!

Definitely check out the Swedespeed R-forum, but here are some R-specific issues to consider, research and accept before money changes hands...

Side hop, underdesigned clutch, heat soak, angle gear, tire rub, wheel bearings, clueless dealers, 4C issues, brake dust, truck-like turning radius, axle ping, exhaust pop, rain squeal, potential for the exhaust bracket to cause $2K in damage, need for extended warranty. Just do a search there on any of those issues.

BTW, I love my 04 VR 6-speed with 36K miles on in it. Whenever I mash the go fast pedal, I always get this stupid grin on my face. Issues...? What issues?

With 80K on an '05 you should be able to get that car cheap.

A very nice car. Check out www.v70R.com They are mostly bling, but some good technical advice there also.
Check the driveshaft for scratches! The 05 came with an exhaust hanger in the middle of the car and going over speed bumps can be pushed up onto the driveshaft, causing an inbalance. A TSB called for the removal of the extra exhaust hanger.
If it is a 6 speed, all the better.
    A very nice car.

Please answer your responses. We need to know if the advice is good or bad. The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are 2 turbos :)

Make SURE it has all the dealer service records. If it doesn't, walk away from it.

The R has, among many, many other wonderful technological advances, an "active" computer-controlled suspension!

    "Swedespeed" has an R-dedicated forum.

Scroll around or search for the kinds of problems R owners have been having.
