Rear shocks on 03 XC70: Nivomats?

Hi,
My wife bought an 03 XC70 a few months ago & not that the shocks need replacing at this point but I am wondering. How do you tell?
I know it`s an expensive hit so I need to prepare her for the eventual "shock".
Thanks,
Rich

Rear shocks on 03 XC70: Nivomats?

Depending on the amount of dirt roads up there, the Nivomats will last from 225,000Km to over 290,000Km. Plenty of time to save money:)
When they go, the rear of the car will no longer ride flat and will progressively get lower. I have 140K miles on mine and they still feel new.

      Thanks, Klaus.

      Klaus,
Hmm, I was afraid that they might be the dreaded Nivomats. No, we don`t do a lot of miles on dirt roads.
I`ll gently break the news to her so she can begin a fund for eventual replacement.
I have yet to tell her the winter Hakka`s off the 850 wagon are not going to fit the XC.
Hope you are having a great summer. It`s been a good one here tho` we sure could use some rain to keep my pastures from getting "crispy".
      Rich

        Thanks, Klaus.

The cattle ranchers down here are struggling to make hay. All of the fields have turned into straw.

They may be nivomats, they may not. Standard shocks look typically like a shock, a tube inside another tube. Nivomats differ in that they have a pleated rubber bellows on the bottom half, kinda like the tierod boots on the steering rack.
