850 lowbeam failure 850 1994

1994 850 turbo wagon
The left side lowbeam quit recently so I tried a new bulb, in fact I tried three new bulbs but still no luck. The fuse is still OK. I still have 12V at the socket, so I've run out of ideas. The socket admittedly does look rather burnt, but it has for several years anyway.
The old bulb and all the new ones I tried measured at about 0.25 ohms cold. 50W at 12V should be 2-3 ohms but that's when they're hot so these bulbs look OK to me.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks for any help I can get.

Malcolm

Checking voltage is not enough. It takes current to light a bulb.

Figure out a way to connect the bulb with a meter set to measure current in the circuit.

The current is probably so low that the bulb does not light.

I'll bet that if you did the "pull test", the burnt socket wires might pull right apart.

Thanks James, and Klaus, and TJ (your post seemed to have disappeared while the site was down this weekend?)

I'll re-check the wiring when I get a chance but for now it's working again, but not due to anything I did.

I agree that it's probably burnt wires or rusted chassis connection or something along those lines.

      Malcolm

If you have 12V at the socket, then the ground wire must be at fault. I would suspect the attachment of the ground wire on the frame is rusted.
