iPod install problem - climate control unit 01 V70T5 V70-XC70

I have started with the installation of the Volvo iPod adapter kit. Didn't get a lot done. I have difficulty removing the climate control unit.

Anyone care to give some pointers how to get the thing out?

Thanks in advance.

Robert

I ended up cutting through the clips, slightly budging up the edge of the ECU and radio.

I will post some pictures, as soon as I have the new clips and figure out why they were so difficult to get out.

    Thanks for your help.

    Robert

1993-2000 cars, the ECC unit just pulls out. Quite a snug fit. To verify the new models, use a flashlight and check for a single screw about 1/2 way back inder the unit.
Oh, the radio must be pulled out first! Then, with one hand, reach to the back of the ECC unit and pull hard. Use the other hand to catch it as it comes flying out.
The radio does not need to be unplugged if you balance it carefully on the shift knob. If you do unplug it, have the radio code handy.

This is the newer model, 20001.
I have the volvo instructions: it says remove the 2 screws at the bottom, angle the climate control unit upward while at the same time push down on it.

I can't seem to get the angle right, it is not moving.

Anyone out there who has done the job?

Borrow a plastic spatula from the kitchen or get a plastic putty knife. Wedge it between the climate panel and radio on bothe sides to obtain a slight gap between the uniits. Remove spatula. Try to get a grip on both sides at once and slip the climate unit out. It's a really snug fit, and there are three metal hooks on the bottom of the radio that engage the climate unit. The spatula wedge is to relax tension on the hooks slightly. Try to keep the angle close to the installed anngle, and it should pop free

I almost forgot. If you unplug the climate unit and turn on the ignition key, you will trigger an airbag warning light, requiring a trip to the dealer. The climate unit acts as a junction point for SRS wiring.

OK, I got a slight gap between radio and CCU. No matter how hard I pull push it doesn't release. Is there a chance of release the catches from the gap. Push or pull and how many are there? The volvo instructions indicate 4, you said 3. Are these catches near the front or towards the rear?

You're right, there are 4. Near the front edge. They are L shaped metal hooks.
If you pull out at the bottom they wont release easily. You almost have to pull out at the top first. After wedging the gap between the ccu and radio, I remove the wedge, pull outwarde slightly on the bottom, grab from thhe sides with fingertips annd work it loose. The metal hooks do not "lock" into place, they merely help tighten the gap between the units.

So, it would almost be a wiggle then to get them to slide out?

                Thanks for your help.

The CCM can be disconnected if you take out the battery first, but be sure to follow the instructions for doing so and putting it back. There really isn't any need to disconnect it; just take it out, wrap in in something so that it doesn't get scratched or scratches the HU.

Search the forums at swedespeed.com, plenty of people have done this. There is no need to cut anything.
