Help!! 850 hood latch or hood latch cable real problem 850

I have another potentially serious problem that I really need your help with. How can I open my hood(bonnet) of my 1995 850 T5R if the cablem no longer works under the dash. The cable can't be reached or pulled with pliers under the dash, so that is out. Consider the cable broken somewhere in the engine compartment before it gets to the latches. I read that I can remove the front grill and pull on the lever, but I can't lift the hood enough to get to the bottom of the front grill as instructed on the Bay 13 web site. My questions are several. 1. Help. 2. will removing the front grill allow me to open the hood if the cable is broken inside the engine compartment? what are my options here?

Thanks,

Ouch!! 850

Removing the front grill is only an option if the center safety latch is broken, it will not help you unlatch the 2 locks on either side.
I just took a look at my 850 and it is easy enough to open the latch on the passenger side, but the driver's side has me stymied. My arms are long enough, after dropping the splash pan, to reach up in front of the battery to the latch. On the passenger side of the latch is a lever which can be pushed toward the drivers side, releasing the passenger side latch.
With room for only one arm, I think it a little problematic to cut the cable sheathing and actually pull on the cable.
A good technician who knows 850/70 models may have an easier/better solution.

Ouch!! 850

Thanks for the post. I took the car after much frustration to my nearby Volvo dealer. The technician took the left side turn signal lens off and reached in with a hanger like device and pulled on the latch and it opened both right and left side latches. I was amazed. He said that the center latch device will not open the left and right latches and followed by saying that going through the grill is useless.

Thanks,
