2 Ques: Oil leak on top engine cover seal and compressor engage interval 850

Hi,

I have two questions.

1. How often your AC compressor goes on/off? I hear the compressor clicking every 10 seconds. Is it normal? I am getting some cold air (i.e. not a whole lot). May be I am low on 134a. Should I get a A/C flush kit from local auto store or JC Whitney site's Interdynamix "A/C Flush and Clean" is better?

2. I see oil/dirt deposit near the gasket of the top engine cover (valve cover gasket??). One corner (the timing belt side) also has fresh oil. I am assuming that the gasket is broken. I see about 10 or 12 bolts securing the cover. Is it all I need to remove to access/replace the gasket? I checked eEuroparts. Is it head gasket ($33 part, Part Code: 3531017)?

Thanks.

Any picture link to the mentioned locations? 850

I see no oil at the cap area. It may not be the problem area.

Do you have picture link to the suspected locations -> PCV and line , oil seperator, oil trap (assuming not the flame trap, I know where the flame trap is) and breather system?

If not I will try to find it through my AllData service manual.

For A/C, I may have to send die and search for leak.

Thank you for your help, Klaus and Dick.

AC flush kit???? Not on your car. Go to an autoparts store and ask for a kit to recharge you system. A good kit will include a pressure gauge. It sounds like you are one can short of full.

Now, the important part. Your oil breather system is clogged somewhere. Clean the line going into the PCV first, make sure it is not clogged. If you have a turbo, there is no PCV but there is a line going to the intake side of the turbo.
If that doesn't stop the oil from coming out, the I suggest you replace the oil separator and the lines that go to it. After that, replace the seal on the oil cap.
If you replace the oil cap seal first, you may cause too much pressure and really blow a seal.
Removing the valve/cam cover is not and "easy" job.

You are most likely low on R-134. Just get one of those recharge kits with the gauge and follow instructions.

There is no gasket on the top rather it is a sealant which is rolled on. These rarely leak, but cam seals front and rear can. Also, the oil cap gasket goes out. Another thing to check is when or if the oil trap and breather system has been serviced. These do clog and can blow out gaskets including the rear main seal----expensive to have replaced.

    Have fun,

    dick
