Knock sensors 850 1994

How many of you have had a problem with knock senors? I replaced mine about 4 years ago (did it myself) and here I am again with front and rear knock sensor fault codes. The dealer tells me he has been in the parts dept. several years and has only sold one! Am I the only one. What causes them to go out? Is it the connector?
Thank you in advance.

Mi CE light goes on every once in a while with a knock sensor code. I just reset it and keep going. I don't see any performance issues, and reseting is very simple so I don't bother to change it. I heard they are just very sensitive.

I've done a few sets of them and the only set that I had problems with was not clocked exactly right so I went back in, set them up just like the bulletin said and torqued them down. That was probably 3+ years ago and that lady's car is still fine. I had a new customer come in the other day and his knock sensor change up looked like it was put in by a one eye drunk with a chain saw and a monkey wrench and guess what? It had front and rear knock sensor codes. I know it is a lot of work to do on a hunch but the only advise that I can give is to go back in there and make sure that they are clocked dead nuts like the bulletin calls out and torque them right on the money and see what that does for you.

      Thanks for the reply.
I do have one eye, a chain saw and a monkey wrench but I don't drink .-) I don't remember precisely, but I do have a torque wrench and I am pretty sure I used it. I just wonder if this failure is something that is fairly common. But I guess for you it's not.
      Thanks again!

        Knock sensors 850 1994

I have a '94 turbo wagon with 128 K miles on it & I had the knock sensor wiring
harness replaced about 5 or 6 years ago. Volvo had just come out with a second
wiring harness to correct this. I was told knock sensor malfunction was common in this model.
It has worked fine except when I put regular gas in it for a couple of fill ups.
I reset the codes and am careful to put a mid range premium gas in it. After talking to mechanics who have worked on this, it seems that there was some sort
of flaw in the engine computer that was too sensitive and the revised wiring
for the sensor somehow corrects this. Cost for the part was about $100 and
another $200 for the mechanic to install.
        Hope this helps.
        Don in Denver
