Jambed ignition switch S60

Hello,

An hour ago when I tried to start my '02 the ignition switch wouldn't go past the number 1 position. After letting it sit for a half hour the switch finally turned the rest of the way. Why might it lock-up like that? I see in the owner's manual that there's a transmitter in the key to lock-out the ignition. Could the battery in the key be going bad? I was parked next to a large, long-haul truck at the time. Could certain types of CB transmitters jamb my key's signal? Thanks.

Hi I have a 02 V70 that wouldn't go pass the #1 postion no matter what I tried. I did the steering wheel shake, step on the brake, rattle the shifter. After reading info on the board the suggestion that someone got from a Volvo dealer was to just force it, while being careful not to break the key. It worked just as described, I have since then sprayed it with WD 40 from time to time and it's never happened again. It sure beat replacing the ignition cylinder.

Yeah, I can only imagine how much a new cylinder would cost! Thanks for the suggestion.

Your key's transmitter is good for life! A long haul CB interference? Not very likely, but possible. There is a lot of electronic gear in a semi.
