The sun roof will go up and down, but won't slide back. Where do I start with this one? I posted some time ago but forgot the suggestions. Thanks for any help.

Check the plastic trim pieces on each side of the roof. they pivot in the front and sometimes get crossed up at the rear edge. The motor does not have enough power to pop the roof down and back if the edges of the trim hit each other.Picture a pair of scisors, wiith 1 blade bent inwards at the tip.

Is there an obvious way to remove the SR? Would it be obvious if I looked at it, or do I need a manual? Thanks again.

If you take off the sunroof, ONLY take out the torx screws at the front and middle. The rear torx screw is for adjusting height and should be left alone.

A nice bath towl to rest the SR on the roof of the car is nice! Remember, when it goes back on, the metal tabs on the SR must slide forward on the mounting brackets.

With the SR off, oil all of the hinges until they freely move.

I should be passing Sterling at about 6pm Sunday :)

Bay 13 (Volvospeed) has good instructions for removing the sunroof.

Too bad I won't have time to stop by next Sunday on my way to the Springs.

Short of taking the SR off and oiling everything in sight, reach up and pull down the wind deflector before you push the switch to make the SR slide back. The SR needs to "drop" in the rear before it can slide backwards, and if the hinges are corroded in the front, there will be too much resistance and the motor will not budge.

You could also apply light pressure downward near the back of the SR to try to get it to move. I, would just take the SR off and grease/oil every hinge and clean out any sand that happens to get in there. It is easy enough to do. Just be careful not to retract the roof hinges under the roof because they may get stuck! Been there, done that.

Klaus

Thanks. Seems like I remember your help before. I'll check it tomorrow.
