SEAT BELT NUISANCE S70

I hope you can help me. This has been going on for a while, but today it got to me. Both of my front seat belts have problem retracting. If I don't help them out they hang extended on their respective seats. Do I have to replace both seat-belt assemblies or is there some other way of restoring them to their previous "glories." In your estimation, how much would it cost to install new assemblies?

Thank you in advance for any input.
Ta-ta, j.

Replacing the belts is very expensive. I also suggest pulling the belts all of the way out and slowly feeding them back in.
The roller that they are on is vertical (!) and the belt tends to get bunched up on the bottom of the roller. The spring mechanism leave a lot to be desired.

Don't bother replacing the belt assemblies. I tried to get the dealer to fix them on warranty when the car was new and they said they wouldn't honor that kind of warranty and a new assembly wouldn't change anything. Sorry.

Sorry to hear this. I love this car, but the only complaint that I have pertains to these bloody seat belts.

      Thank you.

Mine were replaced under the original factory warranty (about 170,000 miles ago) and only "hang up" about 2% of the time now. From time to time I also spool them all the way out -- that seems to help.

I'd guess about 1/3 of the original retractors retracted too quickly, damaging the door panels; 1/3 retracted too slowly, getting stuck in the door and damaging the door panel, and 1/3 were correctly manufactured. You probably don't want to know the cost of replacing the things now.
