More re the Check Engine light, in 2000 V70 R AWD despite good running.

A Volvo dealership, following replacement of 2 or the 5 coils, diagnosed a further CE light as being related to the oil pressure driven actuator for the variable valve timing device. I was told there is still plenty of oil pressure at 216,000 KM, and for only about 3 or 4 hrs labour, both the actuator and VVT device itself were replaced. Thed mechanic stressed the importance to these cars of frequent oil changes, and preference for synthetic oil. He also pointed out that the engine management system will go a long wday to compensate for what it finds are inappropriate conditions..i.e valve timing off by about 30 degrees! Hence the apparent smooth, powerful running
