00 v70 xc road noise V70-XC70 2000

Hello, I just bought a 00 v70 xc and when I first drove it i didn't notice it. But, when I go 40 mph or faster, I am getting a lot of road noise. I have seen post about potential problems with the awd on thse cars. I do not hear any grinding or feel any vibration at all. I have also read how important it is to have matched tires on these cars. It souldds like road noise from the tires. The tires are matched, their is even wearing, the are down to a bout 1/2 tread life, not great but not terrible. It reminds me of when I had a jeep wrangler with all terrain tires on it, it is that kind of noise. Do you think I just need a new set of tires or what. again I feel no vibration in the drive linre at all! What do you guys think it could be?
Thanks
Dennis

If you're still experiencing 'road noise'..might also want to check the front end alignment... I ahd a simialr experience on my C70 after replacing a set of tires...and that's what it was...

You didn't mention the make/model of the tires, but check the tire tread depth and compare front to back. If the fronts are a little down, then rotate them front to back. Lug nut torque is 82lbs.
The road noise could be tires and tread design. Also, the tread should make different noise depending if you are on asphault or concrete.

Hello, Thanks Klaus, I will check on the tire make and tread depth, then I will post back. How do you change the bevel fluid?
Thanks
Dennis

I just sent you a very large PDF on angle gear box drain procedure. I had my dealer's mechanic do it in 15 minutes. The mechanic was impressed with how easy it was and shocked to see what drained from the angle gear box. Really bad smell, kind of like very old diff oil.

A master tech at Borton Volvo did this for me. They all know me by name. Any really good indie could also do this, it is not rocket science. 1/2 hour of labor, the fluid cost around $30.
