1998 S70 140k erratic idle S70

Hello, hope someone can help, 1998 base S70 sedan.
Up until this afternoon occasional stuttering on accelaration, once a week maybe? very very erratic today, had to shift into neutral to keep engine running, check engine light came on on a rev into 4 k, no on constantly.

Only thing that is new I degrased engine yesterday, very minimal degraser and hose for about 3 min. Car started fine next am and all day until afternoon, bouncing idle at light in drive. then upon green light sputtering, stuttering rest way home, 2 miles.....
any ideas?
I read a bit in posts about ETM ? before 2000 year ? what is that? I can drop at dealer tommorrow am... any advice?

With all of the rain you guys have been having, it is a wonder that the cars still run. Your "temporary" CEL was probably due to a cylinder misfire which cleared up.
Pull your plugs, and if the electrode is rounded, buy 5 new ones. You car probably does not have indivvidual coils, so I would also change the plug wires, cap and rotor. Make sure you get a new seal with that rotor to keep moisture out.
Your car does not have an Electronic Throttle Module, consider yourself lucky that there is still a cable between the gas peddle and the throttle body.

BTW, I used to work at The Travelers in the early eighties. I don't miss the rush hour congestion at all.

Try pulling the plugs and checking for water in the plug tubes causing a missfire. You said you washed it. Also check cap and rotor.
