850 Valve Job, New head Bolts or Not 850

Removed the head on my son's '96 850 with no compression in #1 cylinder to find a burnt valve. Question is are people replacing the cylinder head bolts when you are doing a valve job. Haynes says new bolts but then again they want you to replace every bolt when taking things apart.

what have bricksters been doing.

Yes, replace them all with new ones. These are 3 stage tightening bolts. Two different levels of torque followed by a 130 degree pull. This has the effect of weakening or streatching the bolt rendering it questionable. I just did a head job on son's S-70 and the bolts are expensive but makes me feel good as I did not want to break one off. I used Volvo bolts buy fcp groton has new ones which are most likely less expensive.

Good luck and have fun,

dick
