Erratic idle and stall and won't start 850

My wife has been complaining about our 95 850 turbo for about a week. She says that after she makes a rolling turn and tries to accelerate, the car is non-responsive. This did not seem to happen from a dead stop.

I have noticed on several occasions, yesterday being one, that first thing in the morning the car will start and rev and putter, rev and putter, rev and putter. I assumed it was just the cold snap we just had. My wife said today that she drove it and thougth that it wasn't going to make it out of the driveway. She said it felt like it was going to stall.

I drove today and noticed a little sluggishness; however, nothing big until I took the whole family to dinner. The car would not start. Being a novice at repair, I called for a tow and they called for a ride. One last ditch effort was the shake the sh*t out of the thing that was humming when the key was in position II (plastic covering over the throttle linkage???). To my amazement, it started, and I drive home.

I went back out after about ten minutes, started and turned off the car. I took the car back out again and it died while driving (maybe coasting) and wouldn't start. I rolled to park and it wouldn't start. Went inside the store, came back out, wouldn't start, shook the humming and the car started. Drove about 50 yards and died. Since it wouldn't start, I removed the plastic covering and tapped the constant idle valve??? with a screw driver, and the car started.

I drove home and started one more time after. I noticed a lot of smoek when I started it in the parking lot. Of course, that could be because I pegged it to 3000 rpms. I thougt I saw smoke from under the hood when I got home finally. I pulled the codes before driving it to dinner and the ones I got from A2 are 433, 435, 231. Maybe 231-slow front 02 sensor means that the 02 sensor is the issue? Sorry for the long post.

Erratic idle and stall and won't start 850

May be a gummed up idle air control valve that sticks when it's cold. Remove the valve and spray the heck out of it with some carb or brake cleaner until it frees up and moves easily. If you feel adventurous you can also remove and clean the throttle body and flame trap device. The vacuum hose connection on the flame trap housing will get plugged over time and need drilling out to clear. Also make sure the air filter is ok and there are no intake system leaks.

Erratic idle and stall and won't start 850

After removing the interior body section with a T40 (That's a really common bit to have!), I put a volt meter to the pump. I got about 12 volts(low battery) for a second or two and then nothing. I cranked it and the volt meter jumped all over the place. Is this normal? Thanks.

Erratic idle and stall and won't start 850

I cleaned the IAC, which was very gummy, and removed the Intercooler Output Lower Hose to find a 1 inch cut in the bottom of the hose/boot. I haven't found one locally yet and Volvo in Spokane wants $150 for this, so I duct taped it temporarily and put everything back. Didn't start initially so I tapped the IAC and it started and idled nicely. Ran for a few minutes and putered out. It will not start now, so I'm thinking no fuel (Fuel Filter, Fuel Pump, Fuel Pump Relay). Does this seem like the next logical step, or could the IAC just be bad? Are there other components that I am missing? I do notice that the hum of the IAC continues after I turn off the key. Is this normal? Thanks again.

        What to replace next????? 850

So I pulled the fuel filter and cranked it....no gas at all. Fuel Pump, Fuel Pump Relay, Fuel System Relay, MAF? I have seen all of these as fixes to the problem of stalling and hard starts; however, which could cause no gas from the pump, and is there a way to test any of these before ordering part after part?
