help 850 dead =( 850

after a 80 mile round trip to pick of my father in law, my 850 died as I was pulling into my car port. I kept trying to start it, a couple of times it finally fired, but it it was missing horribly. Fuel pump? some wacky sort of sensor I don't know about? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If this a 93-95, check your codes. For a 96-97, you will need a code reader. This could be a MAF problem or one of a dozen things.

I'm afraid I don't understand the difference...Does the 94-96 have a code reader on board? Mine is a '97. It puzzles me that I could get it to start a few times, which steers me away from the fuel pump. I'll check the accordian intake. Don't have a code reader so I may end up having the damn thing towed to a shop =(

You need a code reader for a 1996 and younger car.

Turn the key to on and listen for the fuel pump whirr. If you do not hear it, it may be just the fuel pump relay. Any problem with fuel delivery will NOT set off a CEL. If you pull the spark plugs and they are dry, there is no fuel. The fuel pump relay is #103 under the fuse box. It should click when ever the ignition is turned on.

You must live right to have it die right at the end of your trip pulling into the car port!! Fuel pump is a good bet but you don't know for sure without putting a pressure gauge on the fuel rail schrader valve. I believe it should read 35-40 psi. Check the intake accordian tube for any air leaks. Could also be bad idle air valve. Does it hum when the ignition is on?
