sagging rear end V70-XC70 1998

I hate to admit it, but my rear end is sagging a bit. The clearance between my rear wheel and the wheel well is almost an inch and half less than other xc ranging 98-2000. My mechanic can'y figure it out. I have a slight bit of lean to the right also. The handling is unaffected, more of a cosmetic issue so far. I get a little bit of maybe you'd say a knocking sound from time to time over bumps and potholes. Any ideas as to what this might be?

I think it is a matter of age and lack of exercise :)

If one side of the car is hanging lower than the other, you may have a bad spring, broken bushing, or spring seat. A bad shock will not cause that.

What would be ball park cost for replacing springs if that turns out to be the problem. I have had that mention to me as a probable cause? Is this a normal wear for the year and mileage? Thanks.

Broken springs are NOT normal. Besides, your mechanic should have been able to spot that.
Because springs do wear over time, and if a spring is indeed broken (which I doubt), then you should replace both rear springs to keep the ride level. Springs don't cost that much, unless you go to a dealer.
I would still check the bump stops at the top of the springs. It sounds like a bushing to me.

Where are the bushings? Bothr front and rear? And is this a normal wear item for this year and mileage? Thanks.
